UNTIL
THE INTEREST CHECK CLOSES
RULES
1. All participants must be 18+ when sign-ups begin. Please make sure your bio has your age (18+, 20+ also works) in it. If we find out that you are under the age of eighteen, you will be removed from the exchange/hard blocked.2. We will do our best to make sure that you are not given a request with any of your hard limits. At the same time, you must be respectful of others' requests and not cross any set boundaries while creating.3. All gifts must meet the minimum requirements: 1K words
There is no maximum word count for works.4. If you choose to make a multi-chaptered fic for your exchange piece, know that you must post the first chapter of your fic on your posting date, but have until the last overall posting day to post the rest.5. For this exchange, we will not be allowing any real-person fanfiction (RPF).6. All participants must remain anonymous until the creator reveals. You are more than welcome to share that you are participating but please don't publically talk about your assignment (no wips, no sneak peeks, no revealing who you're writing for). This also means do not include any identifying info in creator notes, not even your beta-reader. You will be able to edit all that info afterwards.Reminder: Do not contact your recipient for clarification! Ask a mod; we are more than willing to help you get all the information you need for your assignment.-Again, this is an adult exchange for problematic content, therefore we will not be banning any kink/fetish/trope. Please be respectful to everyone involved. Any kink-shaming or anti/fan-cop behavior will not be tolerated and will be met with prompt removal and a permanent ban from the exchange, as well as any other events run by anyone in the moderation team.In addition to this, we would like to emphasize that we do not tolerate any form of hate speech towards participants or mods.
FAQ
Where can I post my gift?
We have an AO3 collection set up for posting final products. You can also promote your work on Twitter, Tumblr, or another social media platform of your choosing. Keep in mind that we will only be promoting works on our Twitter (@wcp_exchange)What if I'm not into something?
No worries! Participants will be asked to list all of their likes, dislikes, and hard limits when filling out their forms. The mods will be working to ensure that you won't be responsible for creating or receiving anything you dislike.Does my piece have to be explicit?
While explicit sexual context isn’t a requirement, problematic content often needs to be labeled as explicit (E) or mature (M) due to the nature of the subject matter. What about art?
We now allow participants to create and receive art as exchange gifts. Artists can submit by posting their works in an AO3 draft, as well as on social media, depending of the comfort of those paired participants. What if I want to participate anonymously?
We are willing to work with anyone who would like to participate 100% anonymous throughout the entire process. There will be an option on the Google sign-up form to indicate this.Do I need an AO3 account in order to participate?
Since we are using AO3 to match participants, it is required for everyone to have a registered account.So... any fandom?
Yes, any fandom! The only restriction in place is that we are not allowing real-person fanfiction. Is joining the Discord server mandatory? How do I join?
Joining the Discord server isn't mandatory; all updates will be sent through e-mail in addition to the server. Discord invites will be sent to participants via e-mail with your assignment notification. Invites will last 24 hours--if yours expires, e-mail [email protected] for a new one. What is a pinch hitter and how do I sign up?
Pinch Hitters are volunteers willing to create pieces at the last minute if a participant drops. Pinch hitting is not a full commitment; you will still be able to decide whether or not you would like to pick up a request.Pinch hitter sign-ups will open at the same time as writer sign-ups, but will stay open until the end of the creation period. Can I pinch hit while being a committed participant?
Yes! If you think you can handle the potential workload, you can pinch hit and still have a committed exchange partner.
ABOUT
What is 'Word Crimes'?
Humbly named after our king Weird Al Yankovic, 'Word Crimes' is a problematic fic exchange event dedicated to all dead dove/NSFW creators out there. We've come across a ton of talented writers and we wanted to host an event where we can all create, share, and enjoy our freaky fanfiction. What's considered 'problematic'?
For this exchange, 'problematic' can range from power imbalance to incest. Whatever you want! It's up to personal interpretation. How will assignments work?
We will be utilizing AO3's exchange/collection system in order to sort out our pairings. You will be receiving your assignment through the collection, but this does not mean you have to post your final product to AO3 if you do not want to.How will treats work?
Treats are extra pieces you can create on top of your gift for your assigned recipient, picked out from the public request list. Since we have decided to let participants join anonymously, there will be a list outside of AO3 with those requests with no names attached. Treats do not have to meet the word count/art requirement since they are completely voluntary. However, they are not exempt from not respecting the hard limits and set boundaries. What if I don't get a gift?
While we will be doing everything in our power to ensure that everyone will receive a gift by the end of the event, there is still no guarantee that everyone will have a gift by the end of the event.
SIGN-UP INFORMATION
Sign ups will consist of TWO parts:
1. The AO3 Form
2. The Google FormNOTE: PINCH HITTERS DO NOT HAVE TO FILL OUT THE AO3 FORMThe AO3 form is for creating your offer (what you want to write) and your request (what you would like to receive). The Google form is for actually signing up and joining our separate records. This is where we will record your emails and determine who will and won't be participating anonymously.BOTH PARTS OF THE SIGN UP ARE REQUIRED IN ORDER TO BE 100% CONFIRMED FOR THE EXCHANGEAs a tip, we suggest that all participants put up as many fandoms/ships as they can -- the more the sorting system has to work with, the higher chance of receiving a pairing.
EXAMPLE SIGN-UP (BOTH REQUEST & OFFER)
*The Request and Offer forms are both similar. Your request is what you want to receive, and your 'Offer' is what you want to write. The form used as an example below is the 'request' portion, but the offer section that comes afterward works the same.EX: Request the fandoms you want to receive a fic for in the first section, and offer the fandoms you want to write for in the next section

PART 1: FANDOMS & CHARACTERS
Fandoms: List the fandoms you would like to receive content from. Please try to list as many as you can!
Characters: List the characters you would like to see (or check 'any character' if you have no preference-- this is not a deciding factor for what ships will appear in your fic)

PART 2: RELATIONSHIPS
Relationships: Essentially where you list the ships you would like written for your gift. Again, we advise putting as many as you can list that you'd like.

PART 3: ADDITIONAL TAGS & CATEGORIES
Additional Tags: Where you'll list your kinks, tropes, themes, etc. What do you want to see your gifter explore in your request?
Categories: The relationship categories you want to see.

PART 4: RATINGS, ARCHIVE WARNINGS, & DESCRIPTION
Ratings & AO3 Warnings: Operating the same as they do on the website, list which ratings and Archive warnings you are okay with seeing.
Description: Where you put hard limits, extra details, and any other information about your request that you'd like your gifter to know!
ABOUT OPTIONAL TAGS: Optional tags are tags that you may include, but will not be included when the matching system is used.
Make sure that your big wants are in the additonal tags section, and not the optional tags one.
OFFERS:
The same applies to the offers category of the form. The only difference is that it's what you wanna write. For offers, we also ask that you offer as many options as possible!

We ask that you inform one of the mods when you post your fic, so we can let your giftee know which one is for them.If you are an anonymous treater: Please remember to post your fic in both the Anonymous collection and the Word Crimes collections on AO3, so your fic will remain anonymous after the 25th has passed.
